James Hirons June Newsletter

We are delighted to keep you updated on all the wonderful things that took place during May with the residents and staff at James Hirons Care Home.

You may remember that our residents knitted Bonding squares for Liverpool women’s hospital, we have also knitted them for Warrington neo natal unit .

They have been a great source of joy to the residents to be able to knit them, bringing love to the mums and babies and to receive a thankyou card made it all the more worth it .
The residents have knitted over 400 squares now… we think that is pretty impressive knitted bonding squares are small handmade knitted or crocheted squares, usually given to premature or sick babies in neonatal units and their parents.
The idea is simple:
One square stays with the baby. The matching square stays with the parent, often tucked inside clothing or held close to the skin.
Because the fabric carries the parent’s scent, it can help comfort the baby when they’re in hospital incubators or separated for medical care. Parents may also feel reassured by having the baby’s matching square nearby.

Celebrating 100th Birthday of Sir David Attenborough

To celebrate the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough, the residents have started working on a “Blue Planet” mural.
They have begun cutting out different forms of sea life and we look forward to seeing the finished product.

Dining Room Refurbishment

There are exciting changes on the horizon at James Hirons. The Dining room is about to get a refurbishment and residents and staff were given a presentation by Louise Jackson Interiors who are going to turn it into a lovely space for residents and their families to enjoy.

Reading Group & Crafting

At the moment, our book group is reading Cider with Rosie by Laurie Lee.

The Dominoes Championship has taken a serious turn, with a trophy now up for grabs!

The Activities Team gave hand massages to the residents who found the experience very relaxing.

Residents have been busy preparing for the Summer Fete on 27th June by making decorative bunting, hand-painted watercolour bookmarks, decoupaged bottles for table decorations, and handmade cards.
We look forward to welcoming family, friends and the local community along for a fun packed day.

Good Luck to G.P.

We wished our lovely GP all the very best for the birth of her 2nd child… the residents knitted a lovely blanket for her and staff and residents collected to buy her outfits and gifts… We will miss you terribly xx Looking forward to seeing the new baby soon.
