James Hirons March Newsletter
Residents enjoying Valentines gifts

Over the last month, the staff and residents at James Hirons have taken part in some wonderful activities and we hope you enjoy reading all about it in our latest newsletter.

Lets get gardening!!

Residents helped Ashley, who does a fantastic job of looking after the home and gardens here at James Hirons, to sow a selection of seeds in preparation for the coming year.

We will hopefully have a bumper crop of chillies and tomatoes along with a beautiful display of bee friendly flowers in the coming months.

Valentines preparations

Residents made beautiful garlands which were put up throughout the home in time for our Valentines Day celebrations.

Lillington Parish Church Talk

On 6th February, residents from James Hirons attended a talk at Lillington Parish Church, St Mary Magdalene’s. This interesting presentation focused on the Blue Plaques throughout Leamington Spa that have been dedicated to women.

Despite the miserable weather, it was great to meet other members of the community and everyone had a very enjoyable evening.

Afternoon tea at Galanos House

A couple of our residents enjoyed an afternoon at the wonderful Galanos House in Southam. This dementia unit which supports ex-military personnel has a special significance for one of our residents and offers a spectacular afternoon tea (be sure to book to avoid disappointment).

The afternoon tea was presented beautifully and was absolutely delicious by all accounts.

Valentines Day Celebrations

James Hirons certainly knows how to celebrate Valentine’s Day, from a lovely sing song with Noel and Graham, to afternoon tea with the beautiful china which had been kindly donated by the local community.

A huge thankyou to all staff involved in decorating the room, preparing the food, buying the gifts and supporting residents to make valentines decorations. We think they all had a superb day and are feeling very much loved.

Shrove Tuesday

The residents and staff couldn’t resist having a go at tossing pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.
Some were more successful than others!!

Discussion Groups

Throughout February, the residents have continued with their weekly “Discussion Group”. The topics are decided by the residents and in February, these ranged from Donald Trump to Chinese New Year.

We are also thrilled when our residents ask to give talks about things that they are interested in.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have heard from our 99 year old resident who gave a talk to the residents and staff about Regency architecture in Leamington Spa, details on which were taken from his booklet that he had published about ten years ago.

We also heard from another resident on the topic of “The struggle of the Tudors”.
Both talks were extremely informative and entertaining.

Enjoying the Sunshine

On 25th February, a couple of our residents had a trip to Jephson Gardens in Leamington.

The beautiful, formal, Victorian park was the perfect place to enjoy the first spell of warm sunshine so far this year.
